ONE mortuary man (name currently withheld) out of the three suspects who were arrested over the Srah – Okanta chief’s missing corpse at the Suhum Government Hospital in the Eastern Region, has been identified as the Prime suspect behind the missing corpse.
The suspect, who is an unofficial Deputy Boss at the morgue is being held responsible for allegedly selling the late chief corpse out over a power struggle he is having with his boss to get him out of the office.
The Suhum Police on Monday picked up the three suspects, (two morticians – boss and Deputy) and a security man – a son of the late chief to assist the investigation after the Hospital management reported the matter to them over the missing corpse.
On Tuesday, two of the suspects, the main mortuary man (boss), and the security man, identified as Patrick Antwi were granted bail by the Police, while the second Deputy has been detained after he was exposed during interrogation as the prime suspect.
A source at the hospital hinted DGN Online that, the suspect allegedly sold out the late chief body to an unknown person due to a power struggle of office issue he has with his main boss.
The source narrating the incident which led to the disappearance of the corpse revealed that when the late chief body was brought to the morgue, due to the reasons that his son was a security man at the hospital, he was given 100 days of free nonpayment of the mortuary fee.
The source alleged that the family was having issues between themselves, and to that effect, one side of the family stormed the hospital to demand the body.
The source added that the suspect reportedly told the other side that since the late is old and his body has already been given out, he can get them a new body to replace the late chief, and they can bring him back on that fortnight after laying him in the state for public mourning.
The source continued that the suspect allegedly on one night, called a hearse which came to convey the dead body to an unknown place.
These revelations all came out when they were invited to the Police station to be interrogated.
Nene Kofi Padi, 96, the late chief of Srah-Okanta, a farming community near Suhum reportedly died on January 4, 2021, when he was admitted to the hospital for treatment, and his corpse was deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
