Akuapem Poloo
Akuapem Poloo broke down in tears when she spoke for the first time since she was released from Nsawam Prisons over her naked photo case involving her seven-year-old son.
The social media sensation, who was speaking at a press conference on Saturday, thanked President Akufo-Addo, Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame and a long list of others including celebrities who she said supported her in various ways to gain her ‘freedom.’
“I thank God for hearing my prayers and taking me out of this matter, I want to thank my father Nana Akufo-Addo too because when my friends in the media and followers petitioned him, he didn’t look down on me and listened to me. Attorney General also came in and listened. All of them listened to me and released me,” she said, before bursting into tears.
Poloo could not control her emotions and had to be carried out of the press conference for her to calm down before she later returned to continue with her speech.
The music video vixen and actress was last week handed a 90 days jail sentence by an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Christina Cann, for posting naked pictures of herself and her son on social media.
But following a huge public outcry and a #freeAkuapemPoloo campaign, her lawyer Andrew Vortia filed an appeal against the jail term at an Accra High Court.
Andrew also filed an application for bail pending the determination of the appeal case.
The Accra High Court on Wednesday granted Poloo GH¢80,000 bail with two sureties. As part of her bail condition, she has to report to the case investigator every two weeks and further deposit her passport with the registrar of the court.
The court, presided over by Justice Ruby Aryeetey, said she would only travel with the express permission of the court.
On Friday, she finally regained her freedom after she fully satisfied bail conditions and was therefore reunited with her son.
The following day (Saturday, April 24, 2021), she decided to address the media at a press conference which some critics said was a bad idea since it’s risky for her case which is still pending.
Speaking about the photo behind her predicament, she indicated that she was oblivious of the law on nudity, and she didn’t intentionally break the law by publishing her naked photo with her son.
She, therefore, apologised for her action and asked Ghanaians and President Akufo-Addo to forgive her.
“I didn’t have it easy. Even food I couldn’t eat…Please forgive me. I didn’t do that intentionally. Please I’m your kid sister, I’m your child, I’m your daughter, please forgive me,” she begged.
She also seized the opportunity to admonish other social media celebrities to stop posting nudes on social media.
“And I want to say this to my colleagues, to the young ones who are coming, that it is not a good act. I didn’t know and I did it, and this is what I got myself into. So please, especially the nudity, I beg you, we should put a stop to it. Nudity is not good. It’s not good at all. It’s not just taking a picture with your son in that manner. But nudity is not good. And Ghanaians we have our norms and our culture,” she indicated.
Reacting to a question about how her son is taking everything that is happening, Poloo, also known as Rosemond Brown, disclosed that her son wasn’t aware of her brush with the law.
The response, however, contradicted what her mother said earlier that the boy is aware and even refused to go to school as a result of the case.
