Shatta Wale
Controversial dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, on Monday allegedly led a gang to assault Kenneth Acquah, the project manager for a road construction site at Adjiringanor, East Legon, in Accra, for not extending the road to his (Shatta) office.
In a video spotted by NEWS-ONE, Shatta Wale and his gang could be seen halting construction works on the road adjacent his office on Monday. Part of the video also showed the ‘1Don’ crooner hurling insults on the workers.
Project Manager at Oswald T Construction & Engineering, Kenneth Acquah, who was the supervisor on site, alleged that Shatta and his men who came to the site with motorbikes numbering not less than ten (10), physically assaulted him and some of his workers.
According to him, one of Shatta’s men slapped him in the face before they started assaulting him but he managed to escape.
Prior to the incident on Monday, Shatta Wale indicated he had on Saturday sent a delegation to workers on the site to ask them to extend the road to his office or have him contend with.
“He sent someone to us on Saturday to tell us to extend the road to his office but we told them the length of the road and areas covered are contractual matters and not decided by the site workers. We asked them to pick the matter up with Urban Roads who are supervising the project,” Acquah told StarrFM on Monday.
“We were working on Monday when he (Shatta Wale) just drove past the roadblock sign and came through where we were working despite the fact that we had just laid the asphalt,” he added.
He said Shatta then ordered his workers to stop working but he asked them to ignore his directive. Shatta left the site and later returned with his gang who allegedly subjected him to some beatings.
Shatta Wale confirmed his issues with the engineer and the workers but denied knowledge of any assault on them.
According to him, he took his boys to the construction site to get workers and their supervisor to produce their boss, so he talks to him.
“I wanted to meet the contractor who started the work here. It is my area and I am a tax payer so I have every right to speak my mind if I see a problem. They should stop the work and produce the contractor. My boys told everybody to stop work. If some of them were beating someone and may be they pushed someone, me I didn’t ask anyone to beat anybody. I said we should go and stop the work so we can meet the contractor,” he revealed on Hitz FM on Tuesday morning.
Shatta has also denied earlier media reports that he has given money to a contractor of Oswald T, to construct his road.
Kenneth, who also spoke on Hitz FM on Tuesday, has sworn to deal with Shatta. According to him, he has filed a formal complaint with East Legon Police after obtaining his medical report.
Police sources have also told this paper that an arrest warrant for Shatta has been issued and his father Charles Mensah Snr has assured he will produce him at the East Legon Police Station.
Mr. Kwame Gyasi, who is the Divisional Commander at the East Legon Police Station, has confirmed the matter is under investigation.
According to him, if Shatta fails to report to police station as promised by his father Mr. Charles Mensah Snr, the police will go for a court warrant for his arrest.
Management of the construction firm has however stated that if Shatta renders official apology, they will not pursue the matter.
