The customs vehicle in flames
A tricycle rider has died in an accident involving customs officers in pursuit of a car suspected to be uncustomed.
The accident occurred last Tuesday in Vume in the Volta Region.
According to a certain Gameli, a member of the motor riders association of Tefle, the customs officers were chasing a Red Dodge car with registration number GW 8151-18 believed to be an uncustomed car at Vume.
In the course of the pursuit, the vehicle in which the customs officers were driving drove into the tricycle as the Dodge saloon car got stuck in a nearby bush.
Angry community youth who were angered by the event descended upon the customs officers in a white Toyota Hilux with registration number GV 1001-20, and attacking them with clubs. They eventually freed the occupants of the Dodge car who were at the time under the grips of the customs officers.
Sensing danger, the customs officers escaped as their vehicle was set ablaze.

Firefighters who were called were too late as the vehicle was already burnt by the time they got to the scene.
An eyewitness, one Yao, who videoed the scene with his phone, was equally attacked and mercilessly beaten and his phone seized by persons he said he could identify.
Recounting what happened, he said he saw a group of young boys attempting to remove the car tape of the customs car and finally set it ablaze, which he captured on his phone.
Police MTTD personnel who got to the scene restored order and moved the deceased to the district hospital for preservation.
Five suspects have been arrested to assist police with investigations.
