Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged African governments to look at improving access to quality education for young people on the continent.
According to him, this is the only way to develop skills and talents on the continent in order to ensure their civic involvement in the development and growth of Africa.
Delivering the keynote address through a virtual presentation on Tuesday, at the ongoing annual conference of the Young Democrat Union of Africa (YDUA) in Lilongwe, Malawi, Dr. Bawumia said Ghana’s Free SHS/TVET are a model worthy of emulation by leaders on the continent.
He reiterated the Akufo-Addo administration’s commitment to continuously invest to make quality education accessible to all Ghanaians.
This year’s conference has drawn participants and speakers from all over Africa and Europe, particularly those from political parties with center-right ideology.
The Vice President could not be physically present at the conference, which is being held at the Umodzi International Convention Center in Lilongwe, but joined the event virtually.
He praised the effort of the YDUA President, Louisa Atta-Agyemang, for spearheading the conference and working to promote democracy on the continent.
Dr. Bawumia said he was impressed with the work of the union within the short period of establishment.
The event was attended by Eisenhower Mkaka, Foreign Affairs Minister of Malawi and Secretary-General of the Malawi Congress Party as well as the Chief Advisor to the Malawian President on Public Policy and Governance, Dr. Samson Lembani.
Also in attendance are the Chairman of Democrat Union of Africa, McHenry Venaani; Former NPP Campaign Manager, Peter Mac Manu, NPP National Organiser, Samuel Awuku; Director of the Regional Programme Political Dialogue for Sub-Saharan Africa Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Dr. Holger Dix; Electoral Commissioner of Malawi, Olivia Liwewe; and Prof. Mario Voigt of the CDU Germany.
