Nigerian superstar Wizkid also known in real life as Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun has set a new record for being the first African artist to win two awards at the 2021 Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards.
He won the African Act category and the Best International Act Awards in a single night.
The MOBO Awards is an annual British music award for achievements in “music of black origin”, including hip hop, grime, R&B, soul, reggae, jazz, gospel, and African music.
This is Wizkid’s 6th win at the MOBO’s, the most by any African artiste in the history of the awards.
The awards was keenly contested by artists such as Drake, Kanye West, Lil Nas, Skillibeng, King Promise, Davido Tems among others.
According to information gathered by DGN Online, the’ Daddyo’ hitmaker won his first MOBO’s in 2011 and 2016 as the Best African Act and has since been declared as the most awarded artist in the history of MOBO.
Other winners on the night include Chunkz and Yungfilly as Best Media Personality of the Year, Micheal Ward as Best Performance in a TV Show/ Film, Santandave1 as Album of the Year, Milloionz as Video of the Year, D.Block Europe as Best Hip Hop Act of the year, and Tion Wayne and Russ Million (Body remix) as the song of the year.
Cleo Sol as Best R&B/Soul Act of the Year, Sketa as Best Griem Act, Littleesimz as Best Female Act, Central Cee as Best Newcomer, and Ghetts as Best Male Act.
