The entire delegates from all the 16 regions who stormed the National Delegates’ Conference of the ruling New Patriotic Party in Kumasi, on Sunday took a surprise turnout to mob the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia when he was called to present his speech.
The Vice President, himself was surprised at the high turnout of delegates who stood up from their seats and besieged the middle of the conference grounds before the main podium and kept chanting his name, and also hailing him.
The action of the delegates as they kept chanting his name “Dr. Bawumia, the Digitalman, the Next President of Ghana,” among others was highly excited and emotional as President Akufo-Addo and his wife Rebecca Akufo-Addo were spotted smiling and looking on.
The reactions from the delegates took the intervention of the National Youth Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, and Anthony Abayifa Karbo, who appealed to them to go back to their seats but the delegates defy and kept standing on their feet.
The Vice President who couldn’t have a say had to continue with his speech by expressing gratitude to the members of the ruling New Patriotic Party especially the delegates for fighting for the party to secure a second term.
Earlier on, when he arrived at the conference grounds, Members of Parliament also mobbed him, and accompanied him to go round to greet the delegates
He thanked the Polling Station Executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, Constituency Executives, Regional Executives, and the National Executives together with the various organs of the party, campaign teams, and all-volunteer groups for their role played in securing victory in the past election.
According to the Vice President, “the NPP is a party that believes in democracy and the contest of ideas. That is how the party has been built since its formation in 1992″.
He said, ” No one should be denied the opportunity to serve the party if he or she qualifies to do so, adding that, “the NPP is undoubtedly the party with the ideas to move Ghana forward, and it is our duty to ensure that the progress made over the past five years is not derailed”.
“We must continue to give opportunities to honest, dedicated, and hard-working people to selflessly steer the affairs of the party into the 2024 election”.
