A combined police and military team cordoned off the arrival hall of the Kotoka International Airport on Tuesday evening following the discovery of a suspected potential unexploded ordinance device in a bag.
Travelers were detained at the Airport in connection with the alleged bomb attack.
The supposed bomb had been planted in the airport which prompted authorities to restrict movement and to detain the travellers.
A bomb disposal squad from the Ghana Armed Force (GAF) was called to the airport after a suspicious item was discovered.
A victim shared the vidoe on Snapchat, alleging that they were detained after they had been told of a bomb attack but the supposed bomb went off after while.
In the video, some travellers were seen running for cover as they lied on the floor. Some were looking for an escape route as they were apprehensive about an alleged bomb attack on their lives.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Airport Company Limited in a statement on December 29, 2021 Wednesday evening confirmed the incident that occurred at the airport about 9pm at the terminal 3.
According to the company, the Base Ammunition Depot Unit was immediately called to the scene to conduct preliminary assessment of the bag and it content.
They added that “the bag has been subsequently taken away for further investigation, outcome which will be made public.”
Management of the Airport Company therefore apologised to the travellers for disruption facilitation process during the period and assured the traveling public of its commitment to ensure their safety and security at the airport.
