President Akufo-Addo with a delegation from the African Olympic Committee at the Jubilee House
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) wants Ghana to consider hosting the Paralympics Games to be held in Africa in 2023.
President of the IPC, Andrew Parsons, who is pushing the agenda, believes Ghana is best placed to host the first Africa Paralympic Games.
He has therefore expressed hope that the country will accept the offer and host the Games after the 13th African Games which is to be hosted and organised by Ghana in 2023.
This was when he paid a courtesy call on President Akufo-Addo Wednesday at the Jubilee House.
Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, who spoke to journalists, said President Akufo-Addo has welcomed the suggestion of the IPC.
He has however asked the IPC together with the Africa Paralympic Committee (APC) and the Ghana Paralympic Committee (GPC) to present a proposal to the Sports Ministry for onward submission and consideration of government.
As part of the visit, the delegation also introduced the newly elected Ghanaian President of the Africa Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, to President Akufo-Addo.
Deen was elected President of the African Paralympic Committee (APC) at its General Assembly (GA) held in Rabat, Morocco, between October 30 and 31.
He won with 24 votes against 15 for Morocco’s Hamid Al Aouni to take over from Angolan Leonel da Rocha Pinto.
