The family of the 14-year-old girl who was allegedly defiled and impregnated by her father is calling for justice for the victim.
Hanan Shamrock, a proprietor of a basic school at Bilpela, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern region was arrested for allegedly impregnating his daughter.
The Northern Regional Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit(DOVVSU), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Emmanuel Holortu, has indicated that the suspect has been granted bail but declined to give out the bail details when DGN Online contacted him.
According to him, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit is still investigating the case.
Meanwhile, the Auntie of the victim who spoke to DGN Online on condition of anonymity has indicated that the family has lost confidence in the police because of the way they are handling the case.
She noted that the suspect has been granted bail without charge.
She called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and Ghana Education Service (GES) to come to their aid to get justice for the victim.
“ Some members of the victim’s father’s family have gone to her school to threaten her to tell her mother to withdraw the case from the police but we are standing firm and will not withdraw the case. “
The victim in an interview with DGN Online disclosed that she is traumatized and finds it difficult to concentrate in school.
According to her, her classmates sometimes mock her about the issue which affects her studies.
“Sometimes in class, they look at me and start saying things about me which hurts me a lot, and I lost concentration.”
She appealed to the police to grant her justice and ensure that the suspect is prosecuted.
It will be recalled that the victim (name withheld) after realizing that she was pregnant with her father who sexually assaulted her on several occasions attempted to abort the pregnancy.
She was subsequently rushed to the hospital ( hospital name withheld) following complications.
Doctors at the hospital confirmed that the victim attempted an abortion.
The mother and her auntie ( names withheld)who were shocked about the issue interrogated her before she confessed that her father has been sexually abusing her.
The mother and auntie reported the incident at the Tamale police station.
The incident was again reported to the Vittin chief palace where the issue was described as an abomination which the palace demanded some animals and an amount of Gh 1,500 to be used to cleanse the gods.
