Daasebre Akuamoa Agyapong II
The Kwahu State Book Launch which is expected to take place this weekend at Kwahu-Mpreaso in the Eastern Region is in limbo, as a court injunction has been slapped on Kwahu Traditional Council, Daasebre Development Advisory Board, the organisers of the event.
The event which is expected to be attended by high-profile dignities will explain to the world who the people of Kwahu as where they came from, where they are now and what they aspire to be.
This follows an order of injunction secured by Opanin Kwaku Baah and Opanin Kwabena Agyei all representing Daasebre Mampong Ageyi II (plaintiffs) from Nkawkaw High Court and served on Kwahu Traditional Council, Daasebre Akuamoa Agyapong II, National Commission of Culture and Isaac Bright Botwe (defendants).
The injunction order is restraining the defendants by themselves, servants, agents, cohorts howsoever described from holding a grand durbar of chiefs at Mpraeso Social Centre on Saturday 16th day of April 2022 or any other date or place to launch and publish a book entitled Kwahu State Book.
This was contained in six (6) points of the statement of claims by 1st Plaintiff Opanin Kwabena Agyei and 2nd Plaintiff Opanin Kwaku Baah, all representing Daasebre Mampong Agyei II.
1. The statement of claims stated that the 1st plaintiff Kwabena Agyei is a petitioner in suit number KTC/JC/18/1 now pending before the Judiciary Committee of the 1st defendant.
2. The statement continued that, in suit number,r C12/26/2018 heard by this court and adjudged on the 29th day of October 2021 the court convicted the 1st defendant and some 8 respondents after finding them guilty of contempt and ordered them to apologize to the 1st plaintiff which they did but to date have neglected or refused to correct the acts that led to their convictions.
3. The plaintiffs stated further that Daasebre Mampong Agyei II known in private life as Prof Agyeman Badu Akosah represented herein by the 2nd plaintiff is the petitioner in suit number NHC1/E/2022 pending before the Judiciary Committee of the National House of Chiefs.
4. The plaintiff indicated that in the above case the 2nd plaintiff is a petitioner and has petitioned the National House of Chiefs that Daasebre Agyapong II who is launching the State Book has not been sworn in as Abene chief consequently be ought not to hold himself as the Omanhene of Kwahu.
5. The plaintiffs state that defendant’s sole purpose in launching and publishing of Kwahu State Book is not to serve any public interest or advance the cause of justice in the Judiciary bodies having legal authority to adjudicate but to create confusion and misinform the public and all institutions with authority and responsibility to adjudicate in chieftaincy disputes in Kwahu and elsewhere.
6. Plaintiffs say that on social media advertising for the launch defendants falsely claim that the President of Ghana and prominent paramount chiefs in Ghana will be in attendance at the launch to pay homage to the 2nd defendants, a claim they know or ought to know is false.
To this, wherefore plaintiffs seek to order or orders endorsed on their writ of summons and accordingly served to defendants.
Meanwhile, the Kwahu Traditional Council and the Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II advisory board in collaboration with the Ghana State Book have said they will finally launch the Kwahu state book on April 16, 2022.
Addressing a press conference at the Kwahu Traditional Council headquarters on Saturday, March 19, 2022 the advisory board and representatives of Ghana state book, Barima Dr. Ofori Ameyaw who served as a representative of Kwahuman Hene Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II said, Ghana state book has launched a series of state books in Offinso, Teshima,n and Senya.
He said the state book would depict the history, culture, and customs of all the sub towns under the Kwahu land.
Dr. Barima stated that the process to draft the Kwahu state began some two years ago.
Consequently, he revealed that there were no funds to initiate the Kwahu state book but rather, the Kwahu indigenes kept their heads together and mobilized resources for the actualization of the book.
“Unfortunately, we did not get any support but with the spirit of the Kwahus, we were able to put heads together and sourced funds for this book”, he added.
He also noted that the Kwahu state book would focus on chieftaincy.
The book will also focus on remembering historic achievements made by Kwahus, including people who ensured development in their various jurisdictions.
The Kwahu state book boasts of one thousand, two hundred pages (1,200) after a draft was made available to Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II but a review and changes made have been shot up to over 3,000 pages to make sure fairness is achieved.
According to Dr. Ofori Ameyaw, a copy of the book can be purchased at a cost of GH¢1,200.
The event will take place on April 16, 202,2 at the Mpraeso social Center at 9am prompt.
Kwahuman Hene Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II will be present, including other dignitaries in the likes of former presidents John Agyekum Kufuor, John Dramani Mahama, President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Okyenhene, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi who doubles as the current national house of chiefs president as well as Togbe Afede and Nene Sackitey among others.
The traditional council has warned that all events on that day from 9 am to 4pm shall be grounded to pave way for the grand launching of the historic Kwahu state book.
