Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh
MATTHEW Opoku Prempeh, aka Napo, has been adjudged Ghana’s Best Minister for his outstanding performance.
The award was conferred on the Energy Minister during the 3rd Africa Public Sector Conference in Accra, which was graced by top-notch people in society over the weekend.
Acting Chief Director of the Ministry of Energy, Wilhelmina Asamoah, received the top award from the organisers of the programme on behalf of Dr. Opoku Prempeh.
A written statement, which accompanied a plaque that was presented to Napo, highlighted the minister’s unique leadership style, which produces positive results.
The statement also touched on Napo’s innovative ideas and commitment to duty, which have gone a long way to help in the establishment of a competitive natural gas sector.
“Honourable, under your leadership, Ghana has made significant headway, establishing a competitive natural gas sector,” part of the citation indicated.
“By focusing on key projects that aim to fully exploit the country’s resources, rapidly increase power generation and decrease heavy fuel imports, you have revitalised Ghana’s promising natural gas industry,” it added.
Napo, a former Minister of Education, is credited for the smooth implementation of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme, which has increased the enrollment of students in secondary schools.
The Energy Minister, who doubles as Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, has previously received several local and international awards.
