A Police officer stationed at the Formed Police Unit (FPU) in Tesano-Accra has been arrested for possessing 84 parcels of Indian Hemp.
The suspect, 36-year-old G/Sergeant Lotsu Agbeko with service number 45638 was arrested around Along the Bame-Kpeve Mountains in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region after a hot chase from his colleagues.
The suspect had refused to stop at a Police checkpoint at Have, near Kpeve leading to the chase and eventual arrest.
A Police wireless message sighted by Daily Guide indicates that on Saturday, June 11, 2022, the G/Sgt Lotsu at about 12:30 pm was driving his own Blue Black Toyota Corolla – S with registration number, GC 1069 – 09.
He was driving from the Have direction of the Eastern Corridor road towards the Kpeve to Asikuma Junction Road leading to Accra.
On reaching the Have Police Barrier he was stopped by his colleagues on duty, but he refused to stop. He was then given a hot chase.
On reaching a section of the Kpeve-Bame Mountain, his vehicle got involved in an accident leading to a severe injury on his left hand.
He was then arrested and his vehicle searched. The team found 84 parcels of compressed and sealed substances suspected to be Indian Hemp.
He was quickly rushed to the Peki Government Hospital for preliminary treatment. He was subsequently transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra where he is receiving further treatment under Police guard.
Meanwhile, a press statement from the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service has assured the public that G/Sergeant Lotsu will be arrainged after he is discharged.
The press statement signed by the Director of the Directorate, Chief Superintendent Grace Ansah-Aktofi also announced that the two Police officers who stood their ground to arrest their colleague have been promoted.
The two, Inspector Azumah Komla Justice and G/Lance Corporal Diameh without a vehicle managed to convince a civilian to avail his vehicle for the chase and subsequent arrest of their colleague.
