The Local Organising Committee (LOC) has unveiled a new logo for the upcoming 2023 African Para Games, scheduled for September 3 to 12, 2023.
The official logo was unveiled at the Home of AfPC -North Ridge in Accra at a colourful ceremony.
The logo has the Africa map embedded in it, with the red and yellow colours of the African Paralympic Committee. It has the Ghana flag placed where the country is situated on the map.
President of the African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) and National Paralympic Committee (NPC Ghana), Samson Deen, whose initiative and proposal for Ghana to host the event was backed by President Akufo-Addo, expressed that organising the first African Para Games is “doable”, a quote made by Nana Addo on January 5, 2022 when the President of IPC Andrews Parsons paid a courtesy call on him at the seat of government. He was optimistic that the LOC Accra 2023 Para Games would deliver.
He promised the AfPC will deliver the “Stand Alone Multi-Sport Para Events for athletes to also seek qualification for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.”
The event attracted a host of dignitaries, including the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif; the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President, Ben Nunoo Mensah; Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Majeed Bawa; Board Chairman of the NSA, Seth Panwum; Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and a host of international Paralympic stakeholders who joined online via zoom; former and present para athletes and the Ghana Sports Supporters.
