Bryan Acheampong with some officials of Sustain Africa Initiative and ETG Agri In-puts
The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, has announced that the government will rollout a comprehensive five-year plan to help improve food security in the country.
He said the plan is expected to help create an inputs credit system to enable farmers purchase farm inputs especially fertilizers while the Ministry works at eliminating subsidies on agricultural products.
He said, “The plan is going to move away from the current subsidy programme that we have if cabinet approves of it”.
He made this known at the launch of Sustain Africa, ETG Agri Inputs initiative last Friday at Kpone, Accra.
He indicated that the five year agricultural plan will also help eliminate price fluctuations, price variations and ensure price stability across various markets in the country while efforts are made to link private sector farmers to industries to enable them produce local raw materials which are often imported.
Country Director of ETG Agri- Inputs, Fred Akowuah, said the company will also provide technology and skills transfer to help farmers meet the ever increasing demand of consumers.
He said, “our goal is to create a sustainable eco-system where our farmers thrive, our market flourish and our nation prospers.”
Mr. Akowuah noted that his outfit deemed it imperative to partner Sustain Africa to help reduce the prices of fertilizer.
Executive Director of Sustain Africa Ben Valk, said his outfit with support of ETG Agri-inputs will secure food for up to 500,000 people and also supply 20,000 bags of fertilizers to farmers as part of efforts to help increase the incomes of small holder farmers as well as crop production.
