Mob Chase ‘Killer’ Cop In Court

The angry crowd trying to snatch Inspector Ahmed Twumasi from the policemen after proceedings in court

Drama unfolded at the Asokore Mampong District Court yesterday when an angry mob threatened to attack a policeman, who has been accused of murder.

Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, who is accused of fatally shooting his lover, Victoria Dapaah, at Adum in Kumasi, had been brought to the court for committal proceedings when the incident happened.

It took the intervention of the police to ward off the mob that had thronged the court premises.

When Inspector Twumasi was finally called into the dock, he pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder.

The packed audience, which included Victoria Dapaah’s family, loved ones, and friends, became enraged and attempted to seize the accused from the police officers providing security.

The heavily armed police officers stood their position and were able to take Inspector Twumasi into a waiting van and drive away from the mob.

Some of those dressed in mourning clothing to express their grief were subsequently spotted cursing Inspector Twumasi for pleading not guilty in court.

Earlier in the proceedings, the prosecution team informed the Presiding Judge, Samuel Quansah, about the events that led to Inspector Twumasi shooting Victoria Dapaah.

They also presented exhibits in the case, such as the pistol used in the crime and audio recordings of talks between the accused and the deceased.

CCTV footage which also captured how Victoria Dapaah was gruesomely murdered and an autopsy report were also provided by the prosecution team to the court.

The court then ordered the suspect to appear before a High Court for a trial based on the evidence supplied, as prima facie evidence had been established in the case.

The defendant was then re-arrested and imprisoned until July 13, 2023, when a full trial in the murder case would begin before the High Court.
