President Nana Akufo-Addo
Frankly speaking, some Ghanaians including the NDC members and their friends in academia, media and civil society who think they are neutral will not see anything good in the NPP government.
Any action of Nana Akufo-Addo is seen not for the good of the country even when the evidence from experts and global institutions applaud the government for the good management of the economy.
But for these naysayers putting the NDC interest above the country, they will be part of the solution and not the problem of the country during these temporary economic setbacks.
We urge all well-meaning Ghanaians to shoot down the arm chair criticisms and help the government to recover all that was lost during the COVID-19 pandemic because of the unplanned expenditure during that period.
In this country, honesty and integrity have gone to the dogs to such an extent that we are not prepared to state the facts for the sake of politics.
If Ghanaians have forgotten because John Mahama has inflicted them with short memories, we want to remind them of the interventions by the government during COVID so that the people’s health was not put at risk.
Government paid all public sector workers during the lockdown, including teachers who stayed at home during the period, the borders were closed including the seaports and airports, which meant taxes were not collected.
Hotels and beaches were closed, which also meant loss of revenue. That was not all, hot meals were provided to the vulnerable throughout the country, consumers enjoyed free water and electricity for a period and in some cases people worked for a few days in a month but earned full salaries. Those who contracted the COVID were treated free of charge while those on admission were fed too. Ghanaians were also vaccinated free of charge against the pandemic. We ask again whether those naysayers benefitted from these schemes, and if they did, have they ever stepped back to ask themselves how the government funded the initiatives.
In the advanced communities, food was rationed while majority of the workers were asked to stay home or laid off. Above all, their central banks came to the rescue.
This is what our apex bank did in order to avoid the collapse of the economy, and yet the NDC and its commentators want Ghanaians to support their call for the resignation of Governor Addison.
If you will not commend the government for its pragmatic policies to sustain the economy, why should the NDC Minority throw dust into the eyes of the people? The apex bank is a public entity, and in the event of cash flow facing the government it has the duty to save the situation.
Maybe the NDC Minority has forgotten the basic economics that the BoG is a lender of last resort and when the economy had its back to the wall during COVID-19, it saved the situation.
So what wrong has Governor Addison done for which the NDC Minority has given him 21 days to resign lest they picket there to throw him out? Ghanaians are waiting for them.
As far as the NDC is concerned, the good things of the state should come only to them otherwise such perks must be described as corruption. We are told that the Minority Leader Ato Forson once served as a director of the BoG. Did he take director’s allowances?
These are cowards wishing to win power by default because they have no campaign messages and policies for Ghanaians except small pigsty and hen coops. Shine your eyes from now to the 2024 elections, Ghanaians. NDC is on the mission to use you to resurrect its successful failures.
