Former DCE, 2 Others File For Pru East NPP Primary

Abonkra handing over his form, as others look on

A FORMER District Chief Executive (DCE) of Pru East, Joshua Kwaku Abonkra, is among two other candidates who have successfully filed their nomination form to contest the Pru East constituency parliamentary primary on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Pru East Parliamentary seat has been occupied by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) since the inception of constitutional democracy and such three candidates, Joshua Kwaku Abonkra, David Yaw Mensah and Yussif Appiah Apetorgbor believe they each have what it takes to snatch the seat from the NDC.

The former DCE handing over his form to the constituency Secretary, Mohammed Haruna, promised to conduct his campaign devoid of insults and personal attacks. Mohammed Haruna on his part after receiving the form urged all aspirants to undertake a clean campaign.

The former DCE appealed to delegates to look at his track record as DCE and the achievements he has choked for the district to give him the node to lead the NPP in the 2024 election.

“With my experience as DCE, I now have lobbying skills to be able to lobby as an MP for central government projects like construction of town roads, agriculture subsidies especially outboard motors for our fisher folks and a police station which the district still lacks since 1954.

The opposition NDC has been on this seat for God knows how many years but has nothing to show for it,” he said.

He, therefore, pleaded with delegates to consider him as the best among the rest if cleared by the vetting committee to go ahead to contest.

Meanwhile, after close of nomination, 23 potential aspirants of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have filed to contest for eight orphan constituencies in Bono East Region.

Out of the 11 constituencies in the Bono East Region, the NPP has only three and the NDC eight.
