Members of the NDC and GJA
Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have paid a visit to the leadership of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) as part of their exercise to visit some major media institutions to discuss some issues of national interest.
The five-member group from NDC, led by the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, met with the GJA to discuss issues such as the state of affairs of journalists in the country including the treatment and safety of journalists at voting polls and party conferences across the country.
According to the General Secretary, the group’s visit to the GJA is part of their agenda to forge strong partnerships for the benefit of democracy in the country.
“We have been on a journey to meet a number of institutions and we started with the media because we believe the media’s role is critical in the shaping of our democracy and also in terms of the progress we seek to make as a country. We believe we have a duty together to forge partnerships that would be to the benefit of our country,” he said.
Deputy Communications Officer for the NDC, Ako Gunn, also highlighted that the party’s concern for the welfare of journalists, as such, remuneration issues pertaining to journalists were brought up during the meeting.
“We looked at ways in which we could support journalists in the nation with most of their challenges including their economic situations. As a party looking to be re-elected, this is an issue that we must focus on so we have extended our support to the GJA regarding such matters,” he shared.
The President of GJA, Kwabena Dwumfour, expressed his appreciation to the group for the extension of their support and GJA’s commitment to working with political parties to ensure the smooth running of democracy in the country.
