NPP Calls For Calm Over Alan’s Resignation

Justin Kodua Frimpong

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on members of the party to remain calm and await an official address from the party over Alan’s Kyerematen’s resignation at 2:00pm today.

A statement issued yesterday by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the leadership of the NPP has taken notice of the unfortunate decision of Mr. Alan Kyerematen, a long-standing member of the party to forfeit his membership and contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections.

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, one of the leading members of the NPP and former Minister of Trade and Industry, yesterday announced his resignation from the party to contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections, citing issues of intimidation at the just ended Special Delegates’ Conference, which he alleged was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular aspirant.

Among some of the issues he mentioned that led him to resign from the party included his inability to use the NPP as a vehicle to  utilise his God-given talents, experience, and knowledge acquired both locally and internationally having served the party for over 46 years, to subsequently serve at the highest level of executive authority.

“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate,” he added.
