Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, Amorse Blessing Amos has threatened to kill any member of the Fixing The Country Movement if they dare step their feet at the office of former President John Mahama to embark on any protest against the NDC flagbearer.
The NDC Youth Organiser also warned the Convenor for the Fixing the Country Movement, Ernest Kofi Owusu Bempah who has petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor to provide an update on the Airbus scandal case against the former President to pay for his grave and coffin before he attempts a demonstration at Mr. Mahama’s office.
In a statement issued by Amorse Amos reacting to the Fixing The Country Movement public statement announcing an upcoming protest against the former President recently, the NDC Youth Organiser noted that “This statement goes as a warning or whatever they may want to call it, to Owusu Bempah and whoever he may be planning this with, that they should not dare come closer to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s office. If he and his lapdogs are men, they should make any silly attempt around that office”.
According to him, in the event Owusu Bempah and his group remain nonchalant and attempt anything close to what they have announced, they should pay for their coffins and graves before they come.
“We would have no issue if Owusu Bempah and his idling hirelings in the NPP want to express their revulsion against their own failed Akufo Addo/Bawumia government for its inability to stamp out corruption. We are, however, aversed to attempts by the so-called group to draw His Excellency John Dramani Mahama into the misgovernance of the present administration”.
“The group, if indeed it exists, and its leader, may have a right to demonstrate, but that right must not be exercised in a reckless, illogical and smoke-induced manner” he noted.
Amos lamented “There are hundreds of scandals under this government that Owusu Bempah must be interested in. If his government is unable to investigate alleged corruption, he should gird his loins and demonstrate against his government”.
He further said “It would only take someone whose brain may probably be on holiday to dream of doing what Owusu Bempah has announced; alI because a certain Akufo Addo/Bawumia government has not taken action on a supposed Airbus scandal.
Mr Mahama is not in charge of any investigative institution, if Owusu Bempah does not know this, then he must stop smoking those contaminated weeds and start reasoning like a normal human being conceived and birthed by a woman”.
“We shall be waiting for him at John Mahama’s office after the 14-day ultimatum, adding that Mr John Dramani Mahama cannot be blamed for the failures of the Akufo Addo/Bawumia government’s inability to investigate any supposed scandal” he threatened.
The Fixing the Country Movement has expressed its dismay over the lack of progress in the Airbus Corruption investigations involving former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.
The movement has announced its intention to occupy Mr. Mahama’s office in 14 days if action is not taken on the matter.
The movement highlights that it has been over three years since Airbus SE, a global aircraft provider based in France, agreed to pay hefty fines totalling more than $3.9 billion to resolve foreign bribery charges.
“The charges were brought forth by authorities in the United States, France, and the United Kingdom, stemming from the company’s scheme to bribe government officials and non-governmental airline executives worldwide” the group said in a statement.
As part of the global resolution, Airbus also entered into a deferred prosecution agreement with the United Kingdom’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) over bribes paid in several countries, including Ghana.
The investigation revealed that Airbus engaged in a scheme from 2008 to 2015, offering and paying bribes to decision-makers and influencers to gain improper business advantages.
“Of particular concern to the movement is the revelation that Airbus employed intermediaries, including renowned British actor Philip Middlemiss and John Mahama’s brother Samuel Adam Mahama, to facilitate the sale of military transport aircraft to Ghana.
The British and American authorities’ court records indicate that Airbus sought to obtain an “undue favour from a member of the Ghanaian government, identified as “Government Official 1.”
The movement asserts that the Ghanaian justice system should conduct a thorough inquiry into the Airbu’so corruption, as former President Mahama may have significant questions to answer. Despite a year passing since the Special Prosecutor announced the new phase of investigations, there has been little progress on the matter.
Recently, Fixing the Country Movement petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor to provide an update on the case, but they have yet to receive a response. In response to the lack of action, the movement is issuing a 14-day ultimatum for progress to be made. If no action is taken, the movement plans to lead a citizen coalition in front of Mahama’s office to peacefully protest and demand answers.
The movement emphasizes that a nonchalant attitude towards the Airbus corruption affair is unacceptable, and it urges the relevant parties to take immediate action.
“The Ghanaian public deserves transparency and accountability in addressing this corruption scandal involving a former President” the group noted in a statement.
