The current state of the Mpohor road
The deplorable road from Kajebil to Mpohor in the Mpohor District of the Western Region, is affecting economic activities and education.
The major road network through which most raw materials such as timber, palm oil, cocoa and foodstuff are transported from communities in the area to Takoradi and other parts of the country, has not seen any major facelift.
The situation worsens during the rainy season as commuters are sometimes caught up in gridlock as commercial vehicles and trucks loaded with raw materials get stuck.
According to some residents, the situation has been extremely difficult this year because of the level of deterioration.
Meanwhile, some basic school children in the area have also asserted that the deplorable nature of the road is adversely affecting their education.
“Some school children as a result, have to stay home without attending school and the situation is gradually making some of the children lose interest in school”, they told DAILY GUIDE.
They stated that appeals have been made to the relevant authorities to fix the road to ensure education of students in the communities is not unduly affected.
In a related development, some residents who claimed to be activists of the NPP say they are being ridiculed in the Mpohor constituency because of the bad road.
They claimed that the President once visited the Mpohor area in June 2018 to cut the sod for the commencement of work on the Kejebril-Mpohor-Adum Banso road adding but since then, the road has not been constructed”, they alleged.
Pastor Martin Morrison one of the residents in an interview noted that the Kejebril-Mpohor-Adum Banso road is the only major link to the Mpohor District and also links the district to the Ahanta West and Tarkwa- Nsuaem Municipalities.
“Now as a result of the poor road, commercial drivers who decide to ply it, risk their lives and that of passengers,” he said.
