One person was killed yesterday when a truck fully loaded with beer crashed into the La Dadekotopon constituency office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The accident also left another person, believed to be a rice seller seriously injured, according to witnesses.
The dead man was identified as a kenkey seller in front of the NPP office, and was said to have been run over by the truck that was coming from the opposite direction to join the main road.
An eyewitness, Dzifa Amegah, described the crash as “like a bomb going off” and said the pair were later taken to hospital.
The truck could be seen embedded in the office for some few hours, before being taken away from the scene.
‘People in shock’
Some residents said they walked by and discovered the truck had just been ploughed straight inside the NPP office at Oko Dan due to a suspected brake failure.
Some of them, who were in shock, expressed worry, indicating that it was a horrible thing to have happened.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the two were trapped after the tragic incident and had to be rescued using improvised tools before police and fire service personnel arrived at the scene.
ADO1 Alex Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service’s Public Relations Department confirmed the accident, saying, “Our control room received a call about an accident on the Labadi station road.”
“We quickly came and upon arrival, they realised that they had to call their rescue team to augment the process. It was a truck full of beer that had run through the NPP office at Labadi, killing one person in the process and critically injuring another,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.
ADO1 Alex Nartey stated that the fire officers were able to assist in the rescue of the people involved, claiming that the operation was a success.
“My condolences to the family of the bereaved person. We will advise people to be very cautious to avoid such incidents during the festive season,” he entreated.
