NPP Aspirants Commit to Party’s Unity After Flagbearer Election

 

In a significant show of unity and commitment to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the four aspirants vying for the party’s flagbearer position have signed an undertaking not to resign from the party, regardless of the outcome of the primary election scheduled for this Saturday.

The decision was reached during a crucial meeting held between the National Council of Elders and the aspirants, aimed at fostering party cohesion and ensuring a smooth transition after the flagbearer election. The meeting, chaired by esteemed party members, provided a platform for the aspirants to discuss their intentions and concerns regarding the upcoming primary.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference following the meeting, Justin Koduah Frimpong, the General Secretary of the NPP, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome.

He emphasized the importance of party unity and the need for all members to rally together, irrespective of personal ambitions or electoral results.

“We were able to get all the four aspirants to sign an undertaking and in summary, they are to accept the primary results, and promote peace and cohesion,” Koduah said.

“If they don’t win, they will not resign from the party and, support the winner of the primary.

“The aspirants have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to the NPP by pledging not to resign from the party, regardless of the primary outcome. This is an important step in securing the party’s unity and ensuring that we remain focused on our shared goals,” stated Koduah.

In addition to the commitment not to resign, the aspirants have also agreed to accept the results of the primary election.

This agreement showcases their dedication to the democratic principles upon which the NPP is built, instilling confidence in the electoral process and reinforcing the aspirants’ respect for the decision of the party members.

The flagbearer election, scheduled for Saturday, will determine who will lead the NPP into the upcoming general elections.

The four aspirants, whose identities have been widely publicized, have been engaging with party members and the electorate, outlining their visions and plans for the country’s future.

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is tipped to win Saturday’s presidential primary.

His closest contender is Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central. Also in the race for the flagbearership slot are former Minister for Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.
