The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the opening of nominations for its parliamentary primaries elections for constituencies with incumbent Members of Parliament on Wednesday, December 20 to Monday, December 25, 2023.
A statement signed and issued on December 7, 2023 by the General Secretary of the Party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the date for the parliamentary primaries elections has however been rescheduled to Saturday, January 27, 2024.
The party has banned all forms of campaigning until nominations are officially opened. Prospective aspiring candidates and their supporters are prohibited from engaging with polling station executives in organising all forms of activities or programmes in the constituency. The party shall impose stringent sanctions on any member found to have violated these guidelines.
It said that detailed guidelines for the parliamentary primaries will be published in due course, while encouraging party members to pay their membership dues as stated in Article 3 of the party’s constitution.
“The leadership of the party reiterates its commitment to be free, fair and transparent in the conduct of the parliamentary primaries, and counts on the supports of all stakeholders,” the statement stressed.
Meanwhile, the party on Saturday, December 2, held primaries in 111 constituencies where it has no sitting Members of Parliament, popularly referred to as ‘orphan constituencies’.
