Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori believes all is not lost yet, despite the Black Stars opening slump.
Ghana suffered a late 1-2 loss to Cape Verde on Sunday night; stoking debate among fans about the team’s capabilities in the campaign.
But Ofori is optimistic Ghana can still progress if they focus and give hundred percent concentration in the remaining two group games.
Responding to what accounted for the late goal, he said his teammates failed to provide adequate cover in the dying minutes.
“The ball was bouncing in front of me and also far away from me, so I needed to punch it wide, and unfortunately, my players were not there to block,” he stated.
He added, “It happens in a game, and we need to focus and concentrate on the second game. That’s the most important thing.”
Ghana’s loss to Cape Verde marked their third consecutive Africa Cup of Nations tournament without a win in their opening match.
Ghana must now overcome seven-time champions Egypt in their second match.
In the 17th minute, defensive lapses proved costly for Ghana, allowing Jamiro Monteiro to grab the opener after a rebound off a parried long shot.
Man of the match Alexander Djiku’s header from a corner kick cancelled the lead, but later conceded a late winner via Garry Rodrigues.
Ghana next face Egypt on Thursday and later play Mozambique.
