Mrs. Alma Naa Jama Opoku Prempeh, wife of New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), has officially joined the party’s campaign for the 2024 elections.
The move comes after seeking the blessings of her family elders to join the campaign trail ahead of the December 7 elections at the weekend.
Mrs. Opoku Prempeh launched her political campaign in the Odododiodoo Constituency, where she will be canvassing for votes and engaging with constituents.
The campaign launch began with a visit to her maternal family home, where she also sought the support of her family.
Mrs. Opoku Prempeh was accompanied by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, and national, regional, and constituency executives of the NPP.
The event was marked by prayers, traditional rites, words of encouragement, and an outpouring of love and support from her family, which Mrs. Opoku Prempeh described as “truly uplifting”.
Mrs. Opoku Prempeh pledged to work hand in hand with her husband, Dr. Prempeh, and the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, towards success in the upcoming elections.
The ceremony was also attended by a large number of NPP supporters, who showed their overwhelming support for Mrs. Opoku Prempeh and the party.
She expressed her gratitude for their presence and unwavering faith in the party.
“The prayers and words of encouragement only strengthened my determination to work hand in hand with my husband towards success in the upcoming elections.
“I am also deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown by the many party supporters who joined us to witness this momentous occasion,” she stated.
Nii Agyir Banor, Head of Mrs. Opoku Prempeh’s maternal family, led the ceremony, invoking the ancestors’ blessings and praying for guidance and protection over her campaign journey. He emphasised the need for family unity and urged members to offer unwavering support.
Nii Banor praised Mrs. Opoku Prempeh’s accomplishments, highlighting her loyalty, compassion, and leadership qualities.
He encouraged her to continue being a steadfast partner to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and reminded her that their combined efforts would enhance the NPP’s chances in the upcoming elections and bring honour to their family.
Prior to launching her campaign, Mrs. Opoku Prempeh paid courtesy calls on the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, seeking their blessings and support for her political endeavours.
According to sources within the party, Mrs. Opoku Prempeh will be focusing on grassroots engagement, women’s empowerment, and youth development as part of her campaign.
The NPP said her entry into the campaign is expected to energise the party’s base and attract more women and youth to the party in the Greater Accra Region.
Some political observers have welcomed Napo’s wife’s decision to join the campaign, saying it demonstrates her commitment to the party’s vision and values.
The NPP is seeking to retain power in the 2024 elections, and the addition of Mrs. Opoku Prempeh to the campaign is seen as a strategic move to shore up support in key constituencies in the Greater Accra Region.
