Nigerian musician, Burna Boy, reportedly caused the arrest of controversial media personality Darlington Okoye, known as Speed Darlington, following allegations of defamation and cyberstalking.

Darlington was detained after making taunting remarks about Burna Boy’s Grammy win, questioning his collaboration with embattled US rapper, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is currently facing multiple legal charges.

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, disclosed via his X page that Darlington was arrested in Lagos last Friday and later transferred to Abuja, where he was held in police custody.  The arrest followed a formal complaint filed by Burna Boy.

In a viral video, Darlington had asked Burna Boy to explain how he won the Grammy for his album ‘Twice As Tall’, while linking him to Diddy’s legal controversies.

Darlington was released on bail after meeting his conditions on Tuesday. Adeyanju expressed gratitude to those who helped secure the release, including prominent figures such as YeleSowore and senior lawyer Stanalieke. He also commended the professionalism of the police officers involved in the case.

“Special appreciation to all Nigerians for raising their voices for Speed Darlington,” Adeyanju wrote, praising the police’s conduct in handling the matter.
