Akufo-Addo Pledges Peaceful Elections, Smooth Transition

President Nana Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has bid an emotional farewell to Ghanaians, expressing gratitude for the support and trust given to him during his eight-year tenure.

Speaking at the grand durbar in Anloga, Volta Region, on Saturday to conclude the 2024 Hogbetsotso Za celebrations, President Akufo-Addo assured citizens of a peaceful, free, and fair electoral process in the upcoming general elections.

President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to peaceful elections is not new.

Previously, he expressed concern over the political instability in Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, and Niger, where military juntas have overthrown democratically elected governments.

He also assured that he will not tamper with the electoral rules of the country and will hand over peacefully to the newly elected President, come 2024.

At the Hogbetsotso Za celebrations, Akufo-Addo commended the people of Anlo for preserving their rich cultural heritage and acknowledged the Awoamefia of Anlo, Togbe Sri III, for his exemplary leadership.

Togbe Sri III thanked the President for his commitment to development projects in Anlo, including the Keta Harbour, coastal protection, and the dredging of Keta Lagoon.

The event saw calls for unity and peaceful elections from various leaders, including the Warlord of Anlo, Awadada Agbesi Awusu II, and special guests such as the New Juabenhene, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, and the Omanhene of Oguaa and President of the Oguaa Traditional Council, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II.
