The Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has returned the certified 2024 voter register to the Electoral Commission (EC), citing irregularities and lack of transparency.
Dr. Tanko Rashid Computer, NDC Deputy Director of Elections, who announced the returning of the register, insists that without these statistics, the register’s credibility is compromised.
“We won’t accept the register without it,” he stated.
Already, the Director of Elections Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, in a statement, lamented that the final voters register lacks essential data, including national voter statistics, regional and constituency breakdowns, absentee voter statistics, gender statistics, and proxy voter information.
The NDC is specifically demanding voter statistics, which the EC claims is not legally obligated to provide.
The NDC’s concerns are multifaceted, including the absence of essential data such as national voter statistics, regional and constituency breakdowns, absentee voter statistics, gender statistics, and proxy voter information.
Dr. Omane Boamah, expressed disappointment over these omissions.
In response, the NDC is urging the EC to take corrective action, provide the full statistical breakdown, and ensure accountability from various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, the international community, and the media.
