Kamala Harris
In a gracious move, Vice President Kamala Harris called former President Donald Trump to concede defeat in the US presidential election.
This development marks the end of a fiercely contested campaign.
Harris took over the Democratic ticket after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race on July 21, citing concerns about his ability to serve until age 86.
As the first Black woman and person of South Asian descent to run for the presidency, Harris aimed to mobilize young voters and women with her platform focused on reproductive freedom.
The Campaign
Harris’ energetic campaign contrasted with Trump’s message of economic ruin and immigration concerns.
Despite resonating with many, her efforts were ultimately overshadowed by voter worries about inflation, housing, and undocumented immigration.
Trump’s Victory
Donald Trump comfortably surpassed the 270 Electoral-vote threshold, securing his return to the White House as the 47th US president.
His promise of a “golden age” America swayed key battleground states.
Looking Ahead
As vice president, Harris will oversee Congress’s ceremonial certification of Trump’s win.
President Biden has also confirmed his attendance at the inauguration, a departure from Donald Trump’s 2021 snub.
