The GRA female hockey team displaying their trophy
Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) hockey teams are gearing up for their African title defense for next year’s championship in Egypt.
Under the tutelage and leadership of a high profile hockey coach and sports management expert, Ebenezer Frimpong, who is the Head of Sports at GRA, the female hockey team has won the Africa Cup for four consecutive times from 2017, 2021, 2022, and 2023, and are still hungry for more success on the continent as well as the world stage.
Mr. Frimpong said ahead of the forthcoming tourney, “It is my duty and responsibility to prepare and put the Authority’s sports teams in readiness for the various sporting disciplines while top management and the Commissioner General are the decision makers on approval of participation.”
He added, “As a GRA staff, we take pride as African champions especially, the only Ghanaian hockey team to have won the trophy.
“We have our eyes on winning some individual awards at the next African Cup for Club Champions (ACCC) just as we have done in the past.”
Indications are that the technical handlers of both teams have undergone some internal refresher training about a fortnight ago and ready to give their maximum best.
“The teams and individuals targets have been set and we will work hard to achieve them,” said Frimpong.
GRA female hockey star, Vivian Narkuor, eyes her third ACCC top scorer award, while the GRA female team eyes the Authority’s and Ghana’s fifth Africa Cup, with the men looking at reaching the finals and possibly clinching the ultimate.
Frimpong has attributed the teams success story to the unflinching support from the Authority’s management and Ghana as a whole.
Meanwhile, Malawi Revenue Authority celebrated GRA female hockey team’s victory by hosting the team at their Blantyre Headquarters.
