Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, on Tuesday inaugurated a modern Artisanal Training Centre in Amanokrom, aimed at equipping the youth with employable skills in tailoring, beauty, and information technology.
The state-of-the-art facility, originally funded through the GH¢1 million per constituency initiative, was later expanded and renovated using the MP’s Common Fund. Initially envisioned as an ICT centre, the project was reimagined as a comprehensive artisanal hub to meet the evolving needs of the community.
The centre now boasts an ICT lab, a general training area for short-term courses, and specialised sections to train tailors, dressmakers, and beauticians.
“This artisanal centre symbolises our commitment to empowering the youth of Akuapim North with practical skills to create sustainable livelihoods,” Asiamah-Adjei, who is also Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, said. “This is more than just a building; it’s a pathway to economic independence for our young people.”
Chiefs, queen mothers, and residents of Amanokrom were present at the commissioning ceremony, applauding the MP’s foresight and dedication. The traditional leaders commended Asiamah-Adjei for prioritising skill development and addressing unemployment in the constituency.
The artisanal centre is expected to provide training opportunities for hundreds of youth annually, with programmes tailored to bridge the skills gap in the community. It also aims to foster entrepreneurship, enabling trainees to start small businesses after completing their courses.
Asiamah-Adjei, who is the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei North in Accra, urged the youth to make full use of the facility, adding that the government’s development agenda was focused on building human capacity.
The commissioning reflects the MP’s broader agenda to balance her duties at the national level with tangible developments in her constituency. The artisanal centre is expected to spur economic growth in Amanokrom and its environs while addressing long-standing challenges of youth unemployment.
