A tragic incident has shaken the Ghana Police Service, leaving many to wonder about the state of police training and accountability.
On Sunday, December 15, 2024, a policeman accidentally shot and killed his colleague during a confrontation with mourners at a funeral procession in Abease, Bono East region.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when a group of mourners who were on their way to the cemetery encountered a police barrier.
A confrontation ensued, and one of the mourners allegedly insulted a policewoman, prompting a call for backup.
The reinforcement team arrived, and in the ensuing chaos, a policeman fired warning shots.
In an attempt by the mourners to disarm him, the gun accidentally went off, shooting his colleague in the abdomen.
The injured officer was rushed to a nearby clinic and later transferred to Techiman Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The officer responsible for the shooting fled the scene, as the investigation is ongoing.
