Naa Amanua
Legendary Ghanaian traditional singer, Naa Amanua Dodoo, better known as Naa Amanua of Wulomei fame, has died aged 68.
The news of her sudden demise was confirmed on social media by highlife musician Rex Omar. “R.I.P Naa Amanua of Wulomei fame,” he wrote.
Naa Amanua, who died on Tuesday after a short illness, began her music career in the 1960s and has since released many albums and hit songs.
She is known for her puissant voice and her ability to weave traditional stories into her songs.
She has also been a vocal advocate for women’s rights and has used her music to promote social change.
In 2018, Amanua received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, now Telecel Ghana Music Awards. Playwright and media executive George Quaye and Dzifa Abla Gomashie are among several top creative arts professionals who have eulogised the late singer.
