Saglemi House Set On Fire, Documents Intact

A recent fire outbreak at the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project site has raised concerns about the safety and security of the project.

According to reports, the fire was caused by labourers who were clearing weeds from the site.

The fire quickly spread to external warehouses containing expired building equipment, but fortunately, did not damage any housing units or relevant documents.

The developer of the project, Quarm LMI consortium, has confirmed that the fire was an accident and not a deliberate act of sabotage.

Managing Director Kofi Adaboh Ofori Amanfo explained that the labourers had set fire to clear the weeds, but were unable to control it.

He assured that the housing units were not affected and that the project was still on track.

However, the incident has raised questions about the safety protocols in place at the project site.

During a visit to the scene on Wednesday, the Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, urged the consortium to expedite the action and adhere to building codes and safety standards.

He also encouraged the consortium to provide adequate training to its labourers on fire safety and prevention.

The Saglemi Affordable Housing Project has been plagued by delays and controversies since its inception.

The project, which was initiated in 2012, aims to provide affordable housing units to low-income earners.

However, the project has been beset by funding challenges, contractual disputes, and allegations of corruption.

In recent months, the project has gained momentum, with the consortium working to complete the project.
