Nigerian Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has stated that she has no plans to sign upcoming artists, citing the immense pressure that comes with managing musicians.
The award-winning singer told Forbes Africa that handling artists can be overwhelming, and she does not feel equipped to take on that responsibility.
“Everyone always says to me, ‘When are you going to sign an artiste? I don’t think I have the gift to sign another artiste, because artists are stressful. I could just be sleeping, and then I will wake up and my artist is trending for something else,” she said.
Instead of signing artists, Tiwa Savage plans to support emerging talents through alternative means. She disclosed that she is working on setting up a music school, which will provide aspiring musicians with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the industry.
“But I do have the gift to help, which is why I am trying to do the music school, where you can go and later sign to a label that can actually help you,” she added.
Tiwa Savage remains a dominant force in the Afrobeats scene, and while she may not be signing artists, her initiative aims to equip the next generation with the tools to thrive in the music industry.
