The upcoming 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) and Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) are set to clash on the same day, 10 May 2025, sparking concerns about which event will steal the spotlight.
As a ritual of every awards event, celebrities are expected to come in their best style to rock the event’s red carpet to the amazement of their followers. With both Ghana and Nigeria boasting a rich tapestry of fashion, anticipation is mounting over which country will dominate the red carpet scene.
Speaking in an interview, fashion critic, Charlie Dior, expressed his nervousness over the inability of Ghanaian celebrities to match the energy the Nigerian stars will put up during their event.
“I am nervous and not in a good way. As much as I want to say that TGMA we have a chance of meeting up with that of the AMVCAs, it’s a no because over the years we have witnessed how our Nigerian stars put in the work to look good on the red carpet,” he said.
He noted that the AMVCA’s red carpet is always well-organized, with celebrities bringing their A-game in terms of fashion, while the TGMAs’ red carpet has been criticised in the past for being disorganised.
Despite the challenges, Charlie Dior hopes that the TGMAs will put on a good show and showcase Ghanaian fashion and talent. “I want to see quality over quantity. I want to see the right celebrities and influencers walking the red carpet, making it look decent,” he said.
He further reintegrated that, “Last year, the red carpet was overcrowded with a lot of people attending. Given the low publicity this year, I’m hoping that fewer people will know about the event, but in a good way. I want to see only invited guests and handpicked individuals walking the red carpet to make it look decent. Unlike last year, when it felt like just a large crowd of people.”
