ENGAGE NOW Africa, in collaboration with Ensign Global University, has organised a one-day workshop on May 16, 2025, at the Centre for Leadership, Innovation and Prosperity, Ensign Global University.
The workshop, themed, “Public Health Approach: The Missing Link in Preventing and Combating Human Trafficking,” brought together health professionals to raise awareness, build capacity, and foster collaboration in addressing human trafficking.
The workshop was the first of its kind in Ghana and West Africa to focus on training health workers to prevent and combat human trafficking. Director of Engage Now Africa, Afasi Komla, emphasized the importance of a public health approach in anti-trafficking strategies, highlighting the three core elements of trafficking: Acts, Means, and Purpose.
He also added that the workshop aimed to strengthen health systems in addressing human trafficking and foster collaboration among health professionals.
The workshop featured a practical session where 77 participants were divided into nine groups to analyze real-life case studies using the “Fishnet Method.” This exercise helped participants identify red flags, suggest interventions, and clarify their roles in preventing and responding to trafficking.
Director of Health Services, Dr. James Avoka, expressed keen interest in learning more about human trafficking and acknowledged the uniqueness of the workshop, especially with the inclusion of health professionals.
