A 22 YEAR old illegal miner has reportedly died after accidentally falling into a deep pit, filled with water, while preparing to mine for gold.
Dominic Avuoh, now deceased, was said to be searching for a place to mine for the precious mineral when he suddenly slipped into the pit at Beposo near Kuntanase in the Ashanti Region.
Some people at the scene managed to rescue and took him to a nearby medical facility for treatment to help save his life, but to no avail.
Medical personnel, who attended to the miner, confirmed that he had already given up the ghost before he was brought to the hospital.
A Kuntanase District Police statement, which confirmed the unfortunate news, said a report about Dominic’s death was made to the police on the afternoon of May 30, 2025 by two people.
“Asampana Avuoh of Akrowim near Peminase accompanied by Kwasi Sarpong, the Unit Committee Chairman of Beposo, reported to Police Kuntanase that on 30/05/25, his brother, Dominic Avuoh, now deceased, aged 22 years, went to do illegal mining (galamsey) at the outskirt of Beposo.
“In the process of searching for a place to mine, he slipped into a pit full of water. He was rescued and rushed to Konkoma Chips Compound for medical attention. He was pronounced dead on arrival”, the police report said.
It said police, together with the complainant, proceeded to the Konkoma Chips Compound and found a dead body of a male adult identified as Dominic Avuoh.
“The body was photographed by the case officer, after which she inspected it”, the Kuntenase District Police said “No external marks of violence were found” after thorough inspection.
According to the police, the body has since been deposited at the St. Michael’s Hospital Morgue, Pramso, pending autopsy, adding that investigation into the case is ongoing.
