Fake Doctor Gets GH¢100k Bail

A 30-year-old trader, Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah, who posed as a doctor to defraud unsuspecting individuals, has been admitted to a GH¢100,000 bail by a Circuit Court in Accra.

The accused, who is a resident of Kasoa Crispo City in the Central Region, hatched an elaborate fraudulent scheme by which he scammed his victims by promising to secure visas for them.

He was arrested following intelligence that revealed he was posing as a medical doctor online to basically lure ladies, have intimate relationship with them and thereafter collect monies from them under the pretext of securing travelling documents for them to travel abroad.

Court documents indicate that he was able to collect a total of GH¢55,500 from his victims under the pretext of securing European and American visas for them, but failed to deliver.

He was arrested on June 6, 2025, and a search at his home discovered a pair of scissors, three drips, five syringes, two sample bottles, one plaster, five bottles of canine distemper adenovirus type 2 parainfluenza parvovirus vaccines, one Ghanaian passport and GH¢35,000.

The prosecution’s case presented by Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu pointed out that investigations further revealed that the accused person collected GH¢18,500 from Bernard Ameyaw under the pretext of securing him visa to travel to France, but failed to deliver his promise.

The investigation also revealed that the accused through same modus, succeeded in collecting GH¢1,500 from Elizabeth Dadzie under the pretext of securing her visa to travel to France, but failed to deliver on his promise.

Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah has been charged with six counts of defrauding by false pretences, one count of professing to practice medicine without being registered contrary to section 48(d)(i) of Act 857, and one count of willfully and falsely using the title Dr. contrary to section 48(b) of Act 857.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was admitted to bail of GH¢100,000 by the court presided over by His Honour Jojo Amoah Haga.

He is to provide two sureties that must be justified with a landed property which has title certificate.
