The suspects and exhibits
THE POLICE in Kumasi, through the help of a mobile phone, have arrested two suspects who robbed a hapless lady of her handbag, which contained some valuables, including a smart phone valued at GH¢2,000.
The two suspects, including Issah Abdul, aged 22, and Abdul Rahman, aged 20, were said to be in charge of a motorcycle when they pulled a sharp machete on their victim, robbed her and fled the scene.
In the course of the robbery, which happened in a street at about 5:45am at Alignment, Kwadaso Estate, in Kumasi, one of the robbers had mistakenly dropped his phone at the crime scene.
“The victim retrieved the mobile phone and handed it over to the police as evidence,” DSP Godwin Ahianyo of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, made the disclosure in a press release.
He said, “Through swift intelligence-led operations, the suspects were traced and arrested at Sofoline, in possession of the said motorbike. A search conducted on them revealed: Four (4) assorted mobile phones, and cash amount of GH¢1,690.
“During interrogation, the suspects admitted to the offense and led police investigators to Suame Magazine, where the machete used in the robbery was concealed. The weapon has since been retrieved and retained as evidence.”
The suspects, DSP Ahianyo noted, are in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations, adding that exhibits retained are “five assorted mobile phones, 1 unregistered Royal motorbike, 1 machete and cash amount of GH¢1,690.”
He said an application will be made to the court to seek remand of the suspects, followed by an identification parade to enable other possible victims of similar robberies to identify the suspects.
