The Omanhen of Lower Town Axim and Nsein Traditional Area in the Western Region, Awulae Agyefi Kwame II, has warned the youth, particularly young women in his traditional area about the serious consequences of engaging in abortion.

According to him, some teenagers engage in sex without thinking through their actions and the repercussions thereafter.

“As a teenager, you have no business engaging in sex. But if you do and there is pregnancy do not think of aborting the baby because you can die in the process,” he said.

The Omanhen gave the warning at the enstoolment of the Adehyehemaa of Lower Town Axim and Nsein Traditional Area, Nana Akaakye II.

He recounted how the newly enstooled Adehyehemaa’s parents wanted to abort her when the mother became pregnant.

“This is because the parents were teenagers by then and were not married when the pregnancy was confirmed. The father in particular, wanted the baby aborted but I warned him not to do that and now the child they wanted to abort is the Adehyehemaa we are enstooling today,” he told the gathering.

For her part, the Adehyehemaa, Nana Akaakye II, said she will champion girl-child education, support needy but brilliant students, and collaborate with stakeholders to provide access to quality education.

“I will promote literacy campaigns and seek partnerships to improve school infrastructure and teacher motivation,” she said.

She further noted that she will work with health authorities to improve healthcare delivery within the traditional area.

“I will also initiate a mobile health outreach programme in the area,” she said.
