Melcom Group of Companies will be donating twenty-five blood and vaccine fridges to public hospitals and clinics across the country.
The Managing Director of Melcom Group of Companies, Ramesh Sadhwani, made this announcement during the press launch of the 2025 Melcom Blood Drive on July 21, 2025 in Accra.
“Four years ago, we started donating blood and vaccine refrigerators to public hospitals and clinics. To date, we have donated, if I’m not mistaken, about 45 of them so far. Later on this month or the next month, when the blood drive is over, we will be adding to that with another 25 more,” he said.
He expressed appreciation for the support given to him by the National Blood Service (NBS), and added that the exercise scheduled for July 23, 24 and 26, will be held at thirty selected Melcom shops across the country and four senior high schools in collaboration with the NBS.
“I would like to thank the National Blood Service, the schools that are hoping to participate in and join us this year and all our staff across the country for their assistance in making sure these blood drives are a success. This year, the blood drive will take place at thirty of the Melcom Stores, and we have, with the assistance of the National Blood Service, brought four schools to add on as locations for the bleeding. These schools are the Accra Academy and the Ashiaman Senior High School, both in Greater Accra, the Apam and Gomoa Senior High Technical School, both in the Central Region. The four schools are scheduled to start the exercise on Wednesday, July 23.
“The thirty Melcom shops nationwide will take their turns on Thursday, July 24, and the shops at the major malls that we are operating on Saturday, July 26,” he explained.
The Principal Blood Donor Recruitment Officer at National Blood Service, Sophia Blankson, expressed gratitude for the company’s support over the last decade.
”For over a decade, Melcom has not only opened its doors but its heart to the cause of voluntary blood donation across its branches nationwide. Melcom has worked hand in hand with the National Blood Service to mobilise thousands of blood donors, facilitate safe and accessible donation sites, and provide valuable logistical support,” she said.
The exercise will begin at 8:30am and end at 5:30pm each day.
