The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, particularly the wife, of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, as well as to the entire nation following the demise of the music legend.
A statement issued by MUSIGA President, Bessa Simons, said its members mourn alongside millions of Ghanaians over the loss of a true musical icon whose artistry transcended decades and whose melodies shaped the cultural fabric of Ghana. “Daddy Lumba was not merely a musician but a beacon of inspiration whose lyrics spoke of love, resilience, and the human experience,” it stressed.
MUSIGA President, Bessa Simons, leading a delegation to console the bereaved family, stated, “Daddy Lumba’s legacy will live forever in the hearts of Ghanaians. His music uplifted a generation and brought joy to countless souls. We stand united in support of his family, and we pray for strength and peace for his beloved wife and children during this time of profound grief.”
As the nation honours the extraordinary life and contributions of Daddy Lumba through vigils, tributes, and remembrances, MUSIGA pledged to continue promoting and safeguarding the rich heritage of Ghanaian music that he helped define.
“We urge the public to respect the privacy of the family as they navigate this difficult period and to celebrate the everlasting legacy of a man whose rhythms and words will echo for generations,” the statement added.
Charles Kwadwo Fosu died in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
In an official statement issued by the family through their legal representatives, Baba Jamal & Associates, they described Daddy Lumba as more than just a musician.
“He was a cultural icon whose voice and lyrics left a deep imprint on Ghana’s soul,” the statement said.
