Reform Or Face Decline- Pianim to NPP

Mr. Kwame Pianim

Statesman and elder of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kwame Pianim, has called on the leadership of the party to make the necessary reforms to be able to recapture political power or face decline like the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

Mr. Pianim, who made the call in an interview with TV3, said some elder statesmen have also expressed worry about the current development, hence the need to unite to rebuild the party.

He said, “We are worried about the direction the young people are taking the party, and I am hoping that we will soon get our acts together to rebuild, to restructure, and build a united front and to move forward.”

The renowned economist, who was a former presidential aspirant of the NPP, also asked the youth not to neglect his advice but rather relook at the challenges facing them and address same to secure their future.

“They have to listen because it’s their future. It is not my future. The young people in the NPP now, it’s their future. If we do not listen and restructure our party, the NPP will become as irrelevant to the politics of Ghana as the CPP has become now,” he pointed out.

“I know a lot of founding members of the party who are unhappy with the direction and state of the party, and who are anxious and contacting the current leadership of the party both in Parliament, the National Secretariat and the Council of Elders to try to hold a stakeholder’s engagement to look at the direction and state of the party,” he added.
