The chiefs and people of Kwahu in the Eastern Region will celebrate with supporters of Okwahu United as part of the club’s 50th anniversary on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
The Adae festival also coincides with Okwahu United Supporters’ Congress, which will among other things review a draft constitution for supporters’ groups, presentation on supporters’ insurance as well as presentations on supporters’ structure.
Okwahu United Football Club, founded in 1975 and known by many Ghanaians as ‘Asaase Abban Yenti Gyae,’ has produced many footballers for the country’s national teams, including the Black Stars.
Paramount Chief of Kwahu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III upon assumption of office has made several efforts to revamp the football club, which is currently in Division One in the Ghana Premier League.
Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, who is also a staunch supporter of the club, at a recent fundraising and coronation dinner at Kwahu mobilised about GH¢200,000 to support activities of the club.
Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, in an interview during his coronation, outlined plans not only to continuously support the club but to also assist talents in other sporting disciplines in the area.
He, therefore, called on all indigenes of Kwahu, both in Ghana and abroad, to support the club whichever way they could, to enable the club  regain its former glory as one of the best clubs and attract investments from corporate bodies.
The congress is expected to bring together chiefs and queen mothers from Obo, Atibie, Nkwatia, Abetifi, Abene and Pepease, Tweneduase, Mansohwediem, Mpraeso, Obomeng, and the General Manager of Okwahu United Club, Nana Kwame Dankwah among other stakeholders.
Other dignitaries and groups including the Kwahu Professional Network (KPN) are also expected to grace the event, which will be climaxed with rich cultural heritage of the Kwahu people.
The Adae festival is celebrated to foster unity and honour the spirits of departed ancestors while recognising their continued influence in the lives of the living.
