The Women-in-Engineering (WinE) chapter of the Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd. (ECG) has commenced a project aimed at among other things, ensuring the integrity of all prepaid meters installed in the Dansoman District of the Accra West Region of the Company.

As part of the project, the group is set to visit all prepayment meters installed in the district, as the company intensifies efforts to reduce commercial losses, validate meter performance, update customer data as well as interact with customers on the company’s services.

The project, which commenced on August 18, 2025 and ends on October 3, 2025, will see staff of ECG visit over 95,000 prepaid meters installed in the district.

Speaking at a ceremony to commence the exercise, the Project Manager for WinE’s prepayment meter monitoring project, Miriam K. Amponsah, was grateful to all stakeholders for the massive support that the group has enjoyed.

She hinted that though the task is ambitious, the female engineers are poised to take up the challenge.

“About 50 female Engineers from various Engineering disciplines have come together to undertake this exercise. Our prime motivation is to leverage our technical knowledge and experiences to bring the company closer to our customers, while ensuring that we derive adequate revenue for the power customers consume,” she said.

The General Manager for the Accra West region, Sariel Etwire, welcomed the collaboration with WinE, describing it as timely, while emphasising that the success of prepayment metering systems depends heavily on regular monitoring.

“We have installed thousands of smart prepayment meters in the Accra west region under our loss reduction programme. To ensure that we get the optimum revenue from these meters, we will use this exercise as a pilot, before we roll out a massive project to monitor all prepaid meters installed across all districts in the region,” she added.

The Acting Deputy Managing Director for Commercial Services at ECG, Ebenezer Baiden assured WinE of Management’s commitment to their laudable initiative as it aligns with the company’s strategy to reduce commercial losses.

Over the past two years, staff of ECG have regularly embarked on revenue mobilisation exercises to demand debts owed the company, unearth cases of illegal connections and resolve customer challenges.
