Son, Muller Score First MLS Goals

Son Heung-min

FORMER TOTTENHAM captain Son Heung-min and ex-Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller both netted their first Major League Soccer goals on Saturday.

Son, 33, struck a spectacular free-kick just six minutes into his second start for Los Angeles FC in their 1-1 draw with FC Dallas.

The South Korea international joined LAFC earlier this month for a record MLS fee of more than £20m after a decade in the Premier League.

“I’m glad I scored my first goal in MLS and for LAFC. But the most important thing is three points. I’m really disappointed with the draw,” Son said. “I still need time to connect with the team, but I’m enjoying every moment.”

Muller, 35, also made his mark, scoring a 14th-minute stoppage-time penalty to seal a dramatic 3-2 win for Vancouver Whitecaps over St Louis City.

The German, who ended his 25-year association with Bayern Munich this summer, captained his new side in his first start following a substitute debut last week.

“To score the final goal in front of our crowd, it was an amazing feeling,” Muller said.
