5 Killed, 6 Sustain Injuries Over Gbiniyiri Land Dispute

The son of the Chief of Kalba, Kalbawura Amalia, along with four others, have reportedly been killed in Gbiniyiri, a suburb of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba in the Savannah Region.

The incident is said to have occurred over a parcel of land between two factions in the area.

Information gathered indicates that six persons have sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds as a result of the clash.

The deceased and injured persons have since been transported to Sawla-Tuna-Kalba for preservation and treatment.

The Savannah Regional Police Command has since beefed up security in Kalba and Gbiniyiri to protect lives and property.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA), under the Presidency of Mr. Al-Hassan Baba Darison, has notified all members and affiliate groups of an emergency meeting to be convened in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District.

A statement signed by Habibu Muftawu, General Secretary, GLYA, indicated that the purpose of the emergency meeting is to deliberate on and adopt a comprehensive roadmap to address and resolve the recurring conflicts between settler communities and the indigenous people of Gonjaland.

“All tribal youth groups under the umbrella of the Gonjaland Youth Association are strongly urged to attend, as the resolutions and outcomes of this meeting shall be binding on all parties within Gonjaland,” he stated.

The Savannah Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has also engaged other stakeholders in an emergency meeting to prevent further attacks and to find lasting solutions to the incident.

Additionally, military personnel from Damongo have been deployed to help restore calm between the feuding factions.
